Burning (the Midnight Oil) in Butler

The Hellish Library

Drunken revelers
Cutting through campus
On their way from bar to party
And back again
See the lights burning in the windows
And in the blurry haze of intoxication,
Perceive the lights as the blazes of hell
Students inside study their textbooks
As the devil studies his craft,
While those outside
Are oh-so-relieved
Not to be burning in the hellfires
Of the library on a weekend.

(Fine, so really I just wanted an excuse to post this beautiful picture of Butler, Columbia's library, and, yes, I did just call a library beautiful.)

Wow...Now that I see the picture, I finally get what you meant in the poem...thought you were exaggerating ;)

Do you actually think that's an effective way of giving tochachah?
If not, why bother with the vitriol? If yes, I'll give you a hint: it's not!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but to be blunt, the light that you are so impressed with pales in comparison to the OR HATORAH that shines forth 24 hours a day from the "librarys" of many yeshivas such as Lakewood, Poneviz and Prisk etc.

Are you saying she should drop out of Columbia and start learning in Lakewood? Yeah, that'll work.

What a load of self-aggrandizing useless drivel!

FS writes, "This is a discussion, and presumably the blogger and readers are interested in a free exchange of ideas."

Except that your comment was not an idea in the least. You conclude your mussar by imploring her to "come out of the dark."

But this takes the cake:
It is clear from the fact that I am a regular reader of this blog (and the two of you as well)that what Elisheva writes is worth reading. Isn't that flattery in itself?

Who are you to think that your reading Elisheva's blog is flattering? After (or maybe before?) you get over yourself, I'd suggest you pick up a Mesilas Yesharim yourself; maybe that will burst your bubble!
