Deep Thoughts: The Smurfberry Edition

  • Today in Walgreen's, I found blue smurfberry animal crackers. Now, aside from the fact that blue animal crackers look disgusting (they were a drab light blue), Smurfs are not animals and therefore Smurf-shaped animal crackers are not animal crackers. Am I missing something here?
  • Who would have thought that the first state border I'd ever drive across would be the Colorado-Nebraska border? Heck, I didn't even know until yesterday that those two states have a border.
  • Unsolved mystery: Why does a Walgreen's employee (it was a very eventful trip to Walgreen's) have a BMW? Couldn't she pawn the BMW and then not have to work at Walgreen's?
  • I don't have to buy nearly enough books for school this semester, which I recognize is nice in the saving money department but is also a bummer because classes are good excuses to add books to my bookshelf, which is always a good thing. Because how else am I going to fill a home library one day?

Deep Thoughts: The Back to School Edition

  • So, I've decided that on days when I have 9:30 class, it's worth getting to school before 8 in the morning to avoid rush hour traffic. In theory, this makes sense. In practice, I am tired.
  • You're never too old for a moon bounce. (Best birthday party ever.)
  • I may have opened almost all of my birthday presents a week before my birthday.
  • New Year's Eve cocktail party-themed Rosh Hashana meal: genius. Too bad I didn't think of this on Jan. 2 last year so I could have gotten lots of on-sale New Year's products. Though Halloween stuff has been in stores for a few weeks already, so maybe New Year's products will hit stores before Rosh Hashana. One can only hope, I suppose.
  • And now, I will start preparing to present an article in class on Thursday. Yes, I have a class presentation on the first day of that class. I'm pretty sure there's something inherently unfair about that. What ever happened to the first day class being the day the prof gives out the syllabus and lets you out early?

Purple Nail Polish: Inquiring Minds Want to Know

Very important question: Can I pull off purple nail polish? Or am I too old? Or am I just not cool enough?

This Is Not a Jumpsuit

Dear NYT,

I know the stereotype is of jailbirds wearing orange jumpsuits, but this is not a "bright orange jumpsuit" as described by the article to which it is attached. The outfit in question looks to be two separate bright orange pieces, which do not make a jumpsuit.

(I am in no way making light of the actual case—the Leiby Kletzky case—but the Paper of Record needs to be kept on its toes. Unless they want to run prison fashion corrections.)

Love,
Eli7 (a concerned reader)
